Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa: "A Cut Above the Rest"

As you already know, Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa is a among India’s finest hospitality institutes academic certification from the finest and oldest hospitality school—Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne of Switzerland.

Since the beginning, Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa has stood out from the crowd by doing things differently. The objective, however, is pretty straightforward: to nurture hospitality leaders, professionals who wouldn’t just be tiny cogs in the big wheel that is the hospitality industry, but innovators and thinkers who can actively lead change in the industry, in any market or locale, globally.

It is for this reason that the curriculum goes above and beyond what most “hotel management” courses include in their syllabus. At Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa, we provide a balanced mix of hospitality and business education.

The hospitality industry is one of major industries to have played a role in bringing the world together, making it a smaller place, as it were.  It is therefore imperative for those aspiring to be a part of this industry to be consummate professionals, completely aware of the industry, its trends and its nuances on a global level.

The time is near when yet another group of students—no, a group of polished hospitality professionals—are passing out of the fine institution that is Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa. Just as those that went before them, these youngsters will be a part of intensely demanding industry, something they have been rigorously trained for. On May 22, on the occasion of the 4th Convocation Ceremony, we shall celebrate their coming of age and wish them all the best for a glorious career ahead of them.

Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa Open Day Celebrated

The Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa Open Day was a grand success. Several hospitality aspirants, families and friends in tow, started turning up around 1030 hours, half an hour before the scheduled start.

It was a hot day and the guests were treated to some refreshing drinks prepared by the students in the common mess area.

Refreshing drinks to help the guests chill... literally!
Even though the proceedings were yet to begin, spontaneous, informal interactions between students (and families) with our faculty members had started.

The actual event started with a tour of the campus, with an introductory note by Mr Leevin Johnson.

The tour culminated with a formal presentation on the college and its connection to Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne.

The guests were then led to a scrumptious buffet spread prepared by our students, followed by a formal interaction session.

Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa Student Featured in Article by Hospitality Net

Here's more cause for celebration.

As we'd reported earlier, LEH student Nirmitee Mehta was a part of the team that won the Dorchester Collection Challenge at the Young Hotelier's Summit 2015. The theme of this challenge was embracing disruption, and Nirmitee and her team (prophetically named "Team 10/10") stole the show with their performance and won against a field comprising of students from premiere hospitality institutes from all over the globe.

Now here's the icing on the cake: Nirmitee has been featured in an article by Hospitality Net. Read it here: http://goo.gl/yLJjNK.

Like the rest of her teammates. Nirmitee has won a 7-day all expenses paid trip to Milan, Paris and London with stays at hotels in the Dorchester Collection.

Now, while that does make us somewhat jealous,

we're still proud of Nirmitee and wish her all the best for her future. We also want her to have a whale of a time at the holidays.

Now would be a good time to point out, that no other institute in India provides this sort of industral and international exposure to students. The Young Hotelier's Summit is but one example: there are various national and international meets that students from LEH attend. We also have in place a student exchange program wherein students can opt to transfer to any of Ecole's overseas campuses.

There's yet another reason to study at Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa. You can discover many more on our Open Day on 18th April 2015. Click here to register.

Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa: What Makes Us Stand Out

Set in the lap of nature, in India's first (post-independence) planned hill-city, Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa (LEH) is just about as good as it gets in terms of world-class hospitality education. No, we're not tooting our own trumpet: World Travel Brands has adjudged LEH to be the "best private hotel management institute in India".

So just what is it that sets us apart from all the multitudes of colleges and institutes in India which also claim to provide great education?
  • For starters,it is the fact that we are about more than just "hotel management". Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa is among less than a handful of institutes in India that focuses on hospitality education as a whole rather than just on hotel management. For us, leading hotel chains all over the world are just one of the various avenues of employment for our students.
  • We are the only institute in India to be accredited to Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, the world's oldest and finest hospitality institute. That amounts to a tremendous pedigree when it comes to our curriculum, pedagogy and faculty.
  • No other institute in India offers practical training at budget and luxury hotels, clubs, international convention center, restaurants and spa during the course itself at Lavasa.
Last but far from the least, the four-year programme at Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa is a hands-on learning experience, highly interactive and technology-driven. Our students, as a result, are ready to take on the challenges of leadership positions in the hospitality industry right away; hit the ground running, so to speak.

The bottomline is: LEH is a great place to study hospitality. However, you don't have to take our word for it. Come visit us on April 18th, 2015, on the LEH Open Day. This is a great opportunity for us to interact with hospitality aspirants and introduce them to LEH up close and personal. We promise to make it a memorable experience for you.

Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa student Nirmitee Mehta wins Laurels (And Prizes) at the Young Hotelier's Summit 2015

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Ms. Nirmitee Mehta , who is representing Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa at the Young Hotelier's Summit, has won the first prize in the summit challenge by the Dorchester Collection.

To put things into perspective, this challenge saw participation from students from the world's top hospitality schools, who have all come to be a part of the annual Young Hotelier's Summit organized by Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. This was the opposition that Nirmitee and her team faced andemerged victorious against. This is the first such prize to be won by one of our students at the Young Hoteliers Summit.

We'd like to tell you about the challenge itself: the central theme was embracing disruption. The participants were asked to design an organisation structure that embraces disruption by breaking down traditional hierarchies and promoting real time communication and collaboration.

The winning team was awarded a 7-day all expenses paid trip to Milan, Paris and London with stays at hotels in the Dorchester Collection.

Ecole Hoteliere Lavasa congratulates Nirmitee once again. We shall keep you posted about more about the event in the days to come.

Till then, keep watching this space.

Demystifying Hospitality Education

More often than not, the variety and richness of our lives’ journeys are in inverse proportion to our fears and prejudices. Prejudices serve to bind us to preconceived notions and known opinions and blind us to the greater truth, while we remain content in our limited knowledge. Sometimes misconceptions are also born out of the reluctance of those who are considered ‘experts’ to elaborate and educate, preferring narrow views to comprehensive ones.

When pressed for a case in point, the hospitality education scene in India comes to the mind.
The hospitality industry is kaleidoscopic with countless hues, where each hue in itself is multicolored. Yes, the hotel industry is the most striking and brightest brush stroke in the painting that is the hospitality industry, but other shapes and colors are no less important in forming the complete picture, so to speak.

A stroll down the corridor of hospitality is the need of the hour to get its deep insights, as it’s a Pandora box through which countless opportunities tumble out. The USP of the industry is these opportunities know no boundaries of segments.

Lodging

This is the jewel in the crown of hospitality. This is the segment that generates the lion's share of the revenue. It includes hotels, motels, inns and resorts. The job offerings can range from chefs, hotel managers, inventory manager, chief customer service officer and much more. Besides, sky is the limit for those with an entrepreneural bent of mind.

Food And Beverages

Over the last few years food and beverage segment has thrived in the most unconventional way, particularly in the developing countries. This is mostly due to the increasing social acceptance of it as a respectable and potential career option. It has opened the whole new avenue of jobs such as food criticism, wine tasting, brewery management, food technique and considering the ever evolving and vibrant nature of the industry, it will never cease to surprise us with its novelties.

Entertainment

Entertainment is something which is inseparable from humanity. As hospitality mainly deals with the happiness quotient of people, inclusion of entertainment was just a natural progression on the hospitality graph. It has a lot to offer on the roadmap of entertainment. The increasing popularity of the theme parks, clubs, gaming centers has also increased the need of experts who understand that mindset of being happy and who can create the feel good environment. Undeniably, all the entertainment hubs are like a nucleus of opportunities for hospitality experts.

Tourism

As hospitality people are trained to have etiquettes and communication principles which are extremely important while greeting people, tourism has seamlessly fallen into its ambit. They find themselves perfectly suitable as tour operators, travel/ transport agency manager. If stats to be believed, there is a mountainous surge in the revenue generated by tourism across the globe. Its visible domino effect is never-seen-kind of outpouring in the job market.

These and many other sectors like event management, business communication, corporate training and aviation are the potential territories which can be explored by the hospitality connoisseurs. The reason of its universal appeal and “fit to all” nature is, in essence, hospitality is the relationship between the guest and the host. Whenever there is an interaction between the client and host, the hospitality expert will be the first person to rely on. It’s like a catalyst of panacea which every industry wants to have in its soul. Indeed, it’s an elephant which cannot be caged in the four walls of the hotel. Its horizon has transcended it long ago!
